Steven Ballin

Attorney Steven Ballin earned a B.A. in Political Science and Environmental Studies from the State University of New York at Binghamton in 1978. Following college, he attended Boston University School of Law where he earned his J.D. in 1981. After becoming admitted to the bar in 1981, he started his own firm, later renamed Ballin & Associates. He has since directed his energy and expertise to the representation of individuals. Within a month of opening his first office he was stacking up successful verdicts in the criminal courts as a criminal defense lawyer and successfully representing personal injury victims.

Within a few years, Attorney Ballin turned his attention to the representation of police officers injured in the line of duty, who had been physically and financially injured by careless drivers, subjects who resisted arrest and property owners who failed to properly maintain their properties. Attorney Ballin has since resolved many complex and unusual cases for injured officers and their families, recovering millions of dollars through settlement, arbitration, mediation and jury verdicts.

Attorney Ballin has served as an arbitrator on accident cases and served for years as a Governor on the Board of Governors of the Massachusetts Academy of Trial Attorneys, where he continues to be a member and has lectured on trial skills to attorneys across Massachusetts. He has also lectured to police officers in various departments and associations across the Commonwealth about police officers’ legal rights and how to better protect themselves. He has written articles for publications of interest to police officers. Steven Ballin is a member of the Boston Bar Association, the Massachusetts Bar Association and the American Trial Lawyers Association. In 2001 he helped found the Sharon High School Mock Trial team, which he has since coached to three regional championships. In 2003 he helped coach the team, which was in competition with 135 Massachusetts high schools, to within one point of the State Championship.

Richard Miller

Attorney Richard Miller is a principal at Ballin & Associates. Originally from Stoughton, Massachusetts, in 1987 he earned a B.A. in Political Science from Stonehill College in North Easton, MA. He then received his law degree in 1992 from Boston University School of Law . Attorney Miller began working for Ballin & Associates as a law clerk while attending law school and after passing the Massachusetts Bar in 1992, began his employment as an attorney for the firm. He has represented clients across Massachusetts in all types of personal injury claims and has litigated cases throughout Massachusetts in various District and Superior Courts. He has represented injured police officers throughout the Commonwealth on a variety of claims including injuries which occurred during resisting arrest, foot chases, responding to domestic disputes, cruiser accidents, motorcycle accidents and stolen motor vehicle pursuits. Attorney Miller is a member of the Massachusetts Bar Association, the Massachusetts Academy of Trial Attorneys and the American Trial Lawyer's Association.

John McMaster

Attorney John McMaster attended Northeastern University where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice in 1983. He went on to the Massachusetts State Police Academy, Municipal Police Officers Class, and worked as a local police officer after graduation. He left the police department and attended the New England School of Law, graduating with honors in 1992. During his first seven years of practice he concentrated in civil litigation, handling mostly personal injury matters. In 1999, he joined the Worcester County District Attorney’s office as an Assistant District Attorney. Attorney McMaster spent two years with that office, assigned primarily to jury sessions where he tried a large number of jury cases. He was also assigned to the motor vehicle homicide list, which was a list of prosecutors who would be specially assigned to this type of complicated prosecution. Attorney McMaster joined Ballin & Associates in early 2004 representing injured police officers and our other injured clients. He is a member of the Massachusetts Academy of Trial Attorneys.

Jason Ranallo

Attorney Jason Ranallo came to Ballin & Associates by way of Cranston, Rhode Island. He attended Bryant University where he earned a B.S. in Finance in 1998. He subsequently graduated from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Lansing, MI where he earned his J.D. in 2001. After being admitted to the Massachusetts Bar in 2002, Attorney Ranallo began his career working on the defense side of civil litigation in one of Boston's top defense law firms, typically on behalf of major insurance companies doing business in Massachusetts. Since coming to Ballin & Associates in 2004, Attorney Ranallo has proven to be a skilled and effective litigator, representing victims in all aspects of personal injury law. Attorney Ranallo is a member of the Massachusetts Bar Association, Boston Bar Association and the Massachusetts Academy of Trial Lawyers.
